The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks a Lab Specialist Intermediate to join the laboratory of Dr. Mohammad Fallahi-Sichani to develop, design and conduct research related to cancer biology with the following responsibilities.
The successful candidate will be expected to :
Utilize biochemical, molecular, or cellular biology expertise to perform cell-based studies, including immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, high-content imaging, chemical and genetic screening, gene and protein expression profiling, etc. and to assist in collaborative research with multiple laboratories in the UVA Center for Cancer Systems Biology .
Document, analyze and evaluate results; identify new research methods and techniques; conduct analysis of data, interpret, and implement research methodology based on outcome of analysis, collaborate, review, and critique data collection of other researchers.
Demonstrate responsibility for the administrative, personnel and planning aspects of multiple current and future projects; collaborate on the preparation of research proposals, applications for grant funding, and progress reports, and assist with the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
Train and assist graduate students, research fellows and undergraduate students with material preparations, research techniques, methods and procedures and use of instruments; explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations, and outcomes in order to help advance the research objectives of the laboratory.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: 4 years of experience. Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 8 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
M.S. degree in biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, or a related field , with additional 3 years of lab experience as research technician
Experience in cancer biology, biochemistry, cell biology or a related filed is required. Demonstrated experience in training and management in the areas of research project and laboratory operations

Anticipated Hiring Range:
$48,000 – $53,000 based on education and experience.
