Lab Support Supervisor
**JOB SUMMARY** **Location BSWH Clinic MOB Plaza College Station TX** **Department Clinic** **Shift Day Monday - Friday 6:00am - 3:00pm** **Preferred Experience Must have at least 5 years of outpatient and or inpatient phlebotomy experience Leadership experience highly preferred** The Supervisor of Lab Support Services supervises the routine activities of the Laboratory Support services department which includes Specimen Processing, Newborn Screen processing, Referral testing and Client Services. Assists the manager as defined by the laboratory or laboratory section policy, with staff hiring, training, performance/counseling, payroll and any other needed duties. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE** Provides on-site supervision and troubleshooting for specimen receiving and processing, Referral testing and Client Services communicating with the Manager as needed. Role models and acts as a resource to others related to duties of assigned support area. Provides expertise for communicating with physicians, nurses and other clients for patient testing needs. Communicate with telecommunication personnel on site and at referral labs for about problems and upgrades. Also for HIS and LIS changes/upgrades. Assists the Manager in monitoring computer reports and inputting charges and credits. Communicates, collaborates, and acts as a liaison with support staff, management, members of the health care team and others in order to facilitate continuity and coordination of services Provides information to the Lab Manager for all test updates that needs to be communicated through the Baylor Laboratory Information System. Establishes service priorities, work routines, work flow patterns, and monitors work flow to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services. Assists the Manager in the development of policies and procedures related to the laboratory section functions, staffing and scheduling. Recommends hiring and termination of staff. Orients, trains, counsels and monitors safety and BLN lessons the staff needs or is instructed to do. May perform evaluation, scheduling and payroll functions, if needed. Assists with orientation of new hires in their section as well as LIS and HIS processes. Assists with BUMC/BSWH required training/testing as well as that of the Pathology department. **KEY SUCCESS FACTORS** Knowledge of laboratory regulations, protocols and procedures. Analytical and critical thinking abilities. Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions. Ability to perform laboratory protocols and procedures. Skill in the use of computers and related software applications. Knowledge of safety and infection control standards. Ability to work in a team environment. Provides training and opportunities for continuing education. Effective leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to make tactical decisions around the allocation and direction of the work of supervised employees using established guidelines, policies and/or procedures. Ability to make effective hiring and termination recommendations. Ability to train, and evaluate performance of supervised staff.
