Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or upon completion of assigned workPay: $16.70 per Hour

SUMMARY:  Responsible for taking daily samples on production floor and performing general microbiological duties within the lab.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collect micro samples throughout various stages of the processMonitor lab inventory and order lab suppliesMaintain cleanliness and sterilization of lab and equipment; autoclaving lab equipment and making mediaTest samples for Salmonella, Campylobacter, APCPerform antibiotic tests on feed samplesOther duties as assigned

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

In the absence of a Lab Technician I, a trained Lab technician, Lab Supervisor, or Sr. Manager of FSQA will take on all quality and food safety related duties conducted by the Lab Technician I.

Ability to operate equipment and handle lab materials safely and effectively, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices and laboratory practicesAbility to work efficiently at a fast pace; meeting speed requirementsAble to discern and pay attention to quality of product and work outputMust be able to work independently and make decisionsWillingness to function as part of a team and work toward team goalsEagerness to learn new ideasPreparedness to assist in other areas of production and work overtime as required

            Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma preferred or equivalent acceptableBasic knowledge of aseptic technique and microbiologyBasic computer knowledge requiredMust be able to perform basic arithmetic and calculations

Physical Requirements / Environment: 

Rarely (0-1 hrs.):  climb or work at unprotected heights (step up onto production stand), kneel, crouch or crawlOccasionally (1-3 hrs.):  lift/carry, push/pull (up to 45 lbs.), sit, squat, balanceFrequently (3-6 hrs.):  lift/carry (up to 10 lbs.), simple/firm grasping, reach above shoulder, fine manipulation/keyboarding, bend/stoop, twist/turnContinuously (6-8 hrs.):  stand/walk, work around moving machinery, exposed to marked changes in temperature, around and amongst poultry dust and odor as well as chemical fumes, work in wet/humid environment or cold environment less than 40◦F, talk and hear, use 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses and distinguish colors
