**Job Summary** Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under supervision by the section chief technologist. Insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department's policies and procedures. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulative requirements. Teaches new employees and students laboratory policies and procedures. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens as required. Performs breath alcohol testing as needed. Assists as needed in all laboratory areas as required to maintain appropriate patient care. **Essential Functions** + Accurately performs all moderate and high complexity testing assigned. + Completes and reports all test results in a timely manner with appropriate and accurate documentation. + Assures that quality control is performed as required. + Analyzes quality control data. Troubleshoots and corrects out of range results in a timely manner. + Always performs instrument preventative maintenance procedures on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis as required and reports any malfunctions to the section supervisor. + Trobleshoots instrument malfunctions in a timely manner and attempts to correct problems by maintenance, repair, part replacement, or notifying the instrument manufacturer. + Effectively operates the Laboratory Computer System for general laboratory and section specific functions. + Performs proficiency testing required for accreditation in a timely and accurate manner. + Communicates all instrument malfunctions, QC problems, unusual patient results, and unusual events to the section or shift supervisor. + Willingly accepts extra assignments and phlebotomy duties.
