JOB SUMMARY
The Lab Technical Specialist I is responsible for the technical functions, under the direction of the Lab Technical Specialist II or III, within a technical discipline. This individual will be accountable to methods and instrument performance, quality control and result reporting, problem resolution, assistance with new method and instrument evaluation, research, and implementation, quality control statistics, assistance with technical studies, and technical education of staff.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
Preferred/Optional: Advanced degree in related field.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Three years’ work experience relative to the technical function of the role hired within.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) certification awarded by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Preferred/Optional: Specialist certification through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) relative to technical scope of role, for example:
SC – Specialist in ChemistrySH – Specialist in HematologySM – Specialist in MicrobiologySBB – Specialist in Blood BankingSCT – Specialist in CytotechnologySCYM – Specialist in CytometrySMB – Specialist in Molecular BiologyLab Technical Specialist has three levels (I, II, III). Candidate will be placed into the level that is appropriate for their education and experience.
