Job Description
The main function of a lab technician is to support laboratory operations through the general maintenance of laboratory and supply storage areas, equipment, instruments, and supplies. The typical lab technician is expected to use general lab methods, techniques, equipment, and instrumentation in compliance with quality assurance programs and standard operating procedures.
ResponsibilitiesRetrieve samples from Sample Control for analysis.Perform sample preparation including but not limited to: aliquot samples, spike and trace samples, prepare reagents, bottle samples, prepare concentrations, separation, sonication, and liquid rack set up.Resolve discrepancies and anomalies to ensure samples are properly labeled.Prepare general lab paperwork such as recording analysis results, tracking samples, bench sheets, and lab logbooks.Wash lab glassware to prepare for the next day's samples and stock lab supplies.Essential SkillsExperience in laboratory operations and sample preparation.Knowledge of biology and chemistry.High School Diploma required.Consistent job tenure of at least 1 year.Additional Skills & QualificationsAS degree or equivalent is nice to have.Experience in quality assurance, microbiology, food chemistry, environmental monitoring, quality control, food safety, and food science.New graduates should have some achievements within school such as extracurricular activities, internships, research, or jobs.Success with individuals coming from a food service experience.Work Environment
The work environment is a microbiology food testing lab. The shift is: Sunday – Thursday 10am-6:30pm. The lab has 14 lab technicians and 2 temporary employees once this position is filled. The lab operates 7 days a week, serving clients who are food manufacturers, ensuring the quality and safety of food before it is shipped to consumers. Primary samples include ready-to-eat peanut butter and poultry.
