We are currently hiring a Lab Technician to join the team at our Goderich Evaporation facility in Goderich, ON.

Goderich Plant: Compass Minerals’ Goderich Plant has operated since 1867, after an unsuccessful search for oil uncovered a vast bed of rock salt under Goderich. Using mechanical evaporation, the plant produces high-purity, fine- and coarse-grained salt products in packages and in bulk for commercial, agricultural, and industrial applications. The plant also packages rock salt from the mine used for deicing and water conditioning.

Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.

How will you contribute to the team?

This position, reporting to the QA Supervisor, is responsibleforensuringall required testing is performed on samples in a timely manner so that all finished goods meet internal and external specifications before being shipped from the plant. Quality Control testing of all finished goods as required. Assist with document review and implementation of our HACCP plan.

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Perform quality control tests on all samples received each day as per the Lab Tests document. Perform daily and weekly testing on well water and plant effluent and environmental issues as required.Inform the QA Supervisor in a timely manner when lab supplies and chemicals are required.Ensure all food and animal-grade products are meeting specifications prior to release.Enter all data generated from testing and send reports as required.Prepare all chemical solutions and calibrate lab instruments as required.Inform the warehouse supervisor(s) when products do not meet specifications and ensure re-samples are obtained and retested, and the results are communicated to the supervisor.Assist with document review and procedure writing for Plant HACCP Plan.Ensure compliance with food safety regulations.Act as backup to the QA Supervisor on holidays.Perform general housekeeping duties in the laboratory. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, other duties may be assigned depending on business necessity.
