Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our dynamic team. This role involves performing various laboratory tasks, including chemical testing, mechanical aptitude, and the operation of wood cutting and bonding equipment. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists and chemists to ensure accurate data collection and analysis.
Responsibilities
Run lab cooks, formulate products, evaluate performance of chemicals/compounds/experiments, and document and analyze results.Select the correct wood according to test requirements, cut large wood boards to desired dimensions, and plane surfaces for adhesive bonding.Follow instructions from chemists to bond boards into billets and press for a specific time.Cut billets into individual testing specimens and perform various performance tests. Document and analyze results in a lab notebook.Participate in special projects as directed by scientists.Perform adhesives performance testing accurately and timely.Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous chemical wastes safely.Participate in and track lab trainings, and provide training to new employees.Maintain clean and safe work conditions, reporting problem areas to management.Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a clean working environment.Sort wood based on species, densities, grain patterns, and moisture levels, and condition them for future use. Maintain inventory levels and lift wood boards up to 20+ lbs. Ability to drive a forklift is a plus.Perform basic maintenance on wood cutting tools and bonding equipment to ensure safety and proper working condition.Attend applicable seminars, conferences, and training programs as requested.Maintain accurate records in laboratory notebooks.Handle and dispose of waste chemicals and tested samples properly.Demonstrate the ability to perform hazard analysis of new chemicals brought into the facility.Operate equipment necessary for in-process and final product testing. Ensure all equipment is calibrated and functional.Perform basic care routines and repairs, including equipment cleaning, lubrication, condition monitoring, and replacing worn parts.Essential Skills
AS or BS in Chemistry or a closely related field with strong chemistry knowledge.Minimum of 1 year of chemical laboratory experience required with a degree.Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.Strong attention to detail and responsibility for the accuracy of data and precision of test equipment.Ability to work in a laboratory handling chemicals, conducting experiments, and operating wood cutting and bonding equipment.Mechanical aptitude.Ability and willingness to work in a team environment where equipment and ideas are shared.Strong math skills and the ability to compile data accurately.Follow all safety rules, work safely, and participate in or lead laboratory safety initiatives.Must be authorized to work in the United States.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with laboratory instrumentation such as Instron, rheometer, NCO titrator, and hotplate.Experience in observing adhesive bond lines under a microscope and measuring failed spots.Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00
