Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Lab Technician to perform all in-house testing, monitor raw material and packaging component receipts, prepare samples for outside lab testing, and maintain lab equipment and supplies. You will also be responsible for updating databases, communicating with production and other lab personnel, drafting SOPs, and training personnel.
ResponsibilitiesPerform all in-house testing and enter results in ERP system or send to designated person.Monitor raw material and packaging component receipts, perform required tests, and release in ERP system.Prepare samples for testing performed at outside labs.Prepare reagents.Clean and maintain lab and lab equipment to a good working state.Calibration and periodic checks of lab equipment.Monitor lab supply inventory and initiate ordering of supplies.Timely review of test results, notebooks, and lab worksheets.Update various spreadsheets and databases to track test results, outside testing, and monitor quality.Effectively communicate with production and other lab personnel about in-process quality results.Perform regular lab inspections.Draft, review, and revise SOPs and worksheets.Help train lab and production personnel on lab procedures.Communicate with outside labs, customers, and suppliers.Execute other responsibilities and projects as required.Essential Skills4-year science degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field Good communication skills and willingness to work with others.Experience in a Chemistry lab using HPLC and wet chemistry in a food lab (if holding a 2-year Science degree).Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Chemistry.SOP and documentation experience.Proficiency in Excel.Work Environment
The role is based in a manufacturing facility, requiring candidates to be comfortable working in a plant setting. The team consists of 9 members rotating between 3 different labs located on the SW side of Cedar Rapids. Safety glasses and potentially steel-toed shoes/boots are required, as well as adhering to GMP standards (e.g., no contacts, jewelry above the waist, or nail polish). Training/normal hours are day shift (8-4 or 7-3), typically 4-6 weeks, with the possibility of transitioning to a 4x10 schedule with a rotating day off after training.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
