Laboratory Analyst  – Microbiology Water Lab

As a Laboratory Analyst, your main responsibilities are to:

 

Adhere to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy. Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) when conducting any laboratory work or procedure. Perform basic Microbiological testing procedures, sample preparation and procedures prior to analyses. Including media prep and clean up. Prioritizes daily workload based on sample and client requirement. Ensures a high level of accuracy in sample prep and analyses. Recording results in logbooks and on FCDs. Data entry into LIMS may also be required. Understanding of analytical procedures and problem solving. Identifies any non-routine samples and seeks guidance on procedures for handling. Identifies and communicates non-conformances to Supervisor. Meets quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements. Employs proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials. Provides Supervisor/Manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays. Maintains training records and relevant qualifications. Keeps work area clean, neat and organized. Participates, when requested in Department and Health & Safety meetings. Participates, when requested in internal and external audits. Be audit compliant at all times. As required, provides training to junior staff. Proactive in ensuring that consumable supplies are available in the lab. Ensures that instruments and equipment are appropriately maintained. All other responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

You are the ideal Laboratory Analyst, if you have a:

 

Post-secondary school education and equivalent experience. Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology preferred. Basic knowledge of environmental Microbiology and provincial regulation would be an asset. Some experience in basic microbiological techniques: serial dilutions, water sample extraction(filtering), pour and spread plate techniques, reading and reporting plates, media prep and sterility protocols. Must be able to distinguish between different color reactions in order to perform analysis. Demonstrated success in the role of a Laboratory Technician. Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Problem solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent record keeping skills. Good computer skills. Understanding of Bureau Veritas's Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is an asset. Good time management, organized, multi-tasking and priority setting skills, able to work under pressure with tight deadlines. Positive outlook with an ability to work with changing priorities. Dynamic, energetic, motivated individual with a "can-do" attitude and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Learns quickly, flexible and adapts to a changing environment. Require flexible working hours and shift work, including weekends. Exposure to biohazardous materials, hot liquids, autoclaves(steam) is present in this role requiring use of established safety procedures and appropriate protective equipment. Must be able to lift up to 20Lbs.

 

                 Work Schedule: 2:00 pm to 10:30pm, Rotating shift and weekends.

                Participation within the emergency “on-call” program on weekends
