**Responsibilities:**
Performs engineering work requiring professional knowledge of the theory and practices of planning, design, construction and alteration of specialized equipment and instrument systems. The field of work relates to mechanical, electrical, electronic and/or computer engineering.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Target Production Group at the University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics has a technical position open for a laboratory engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating production of millimeter-sized assemblies to be used for experiments on the OMEGA and OMEGA EP laser systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Interface with scientific staff to determine feasibility of design and characterization requirements
+ Coordinate with primary and third-party vendors to acquire components
+ Manage multiple experimental campaigns at once to meet deadlines
+ Document record systems for accuracy and content and amend procedures to improve yield, efficiency, and quality of the product
+ Construct components into assemblies and measure the final product to ensure it meets specifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific or related discipline and a minimum of two or more years of experience in a scientific or technical field. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
+ Strong organization skills are required. Written and verbal communication, MS Office Suite, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience.
+ Must possess strong time management skills to handle multiple concurrent experiments at varied phases of development.
+ Experience with Computer Aided Design software such as SolidWorks.
+ Must be able to work autonomously.
