What You Will Do:

We are currently searching for Laboratory Manager to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biology and Metabolism (LMBM) in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).  The primary objective is to provide laboratory management services and deliverables through support, analysis, and translational research for the LMBM.  As the laboratory manager, the individual will be responsible for safety, training, and purchasing in the laboratory and will perform experiments to support the research program of the LMBM. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.  

Serve as the primary liaison between the lab and Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) including maintaining the laboratory animal protocol and managing amendments.Work with members of the laboratory to assure adequate supplies/reagents are available when needed and maintain the equipment to keep it in working order. Communicate upcoming maintenance work and developments within the lab.Serve as the designated safety officer, including serving on the NHLBI Laboratory Manager committee.Onboard new lab members and train junior staff on safety and laboratory techniques.Perform tissue collection for a broad variety of molecular and cell biology experiments.Perform molecular or cell biology techniques such as PCR, RT-PCR, western blot, immunofluorescence, RNAscope, etc.Facilitate and support the library preparation for RNAseq, ATACseq etc.Analyze and interpret all acquired data.Maintain accurate experimental records both in laboratory notebooks and digitally.Remain current in the field through literature searches.Prepare draft manuscripts for publication, revise as needed.Prepare and deliver periodic oral and written group meeting reports.Prepare posters for delivery at scientific meetings.May develop visuals for figure and graphical abstracts within manuscripts and presentations.


What You Will Need:

Bachelor’s degree with FOUR (4) years of experience or a master’s degree with TWO (2) years of additional experience or a PhD.At least SIX (6) years of molecular and/or cellular biology experience, preferably in the field of immunology. Relevant education may be substituted for formal experienceDemonstrated experience with standard laboratory techniques such as PCR, RT-PCR, histology, light, and fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry.Proficient in MS Office and standard statistical analysis software is needed.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

Preferred, experience in laboratory and clinical protocol regulation.Experience in scientific manuscript preparation and oral presentations is desired.Graphic design abilities useful for figure and graphical abstract production preferred.Knowledge of coding languages, image analysis a plus.Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.Knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures.Interest in and experience with mentoring trainees.Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

The annual salary range for this position is $100,200.00-$150,200.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
