Hinton, Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Immunology is seeking a talented Lab Manager. The Lab Manager will oversee operations of the lab and contribute to biomedical research that examines cannabinoids and their receptors in cancer, and other projects related to the biological basis of health disparities.The lab manager will bring managerial skills and knowledge of safety and lab procedures to ensure that the lab operates smoothly. The position will oversee scheduling, maintaining inventory, ordering and organizing supplies, and maintaining safety standards. The lab manager will also train lab staff and research students on the correct use of lab equipment, in addition to mentoring and fostering a collaborative culture.

The Lab Manager will also perform research experiments to support the scholarship of the lab. The Lab Manager must be able to contribute to the scope, and plan of approach, of research projects. It will be expected that the lab manager contributes original ideas to the laboratory research, standardizes new techniques and trains staff, performs specialized procedures, prepares written reports of laboratory experimental methods, reads abstracts and articles, organizes and plans techniques, and help lab personnel troubleshoot problems that they are unable to solve. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited college/university. Minimum of two (2) years of related experience Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal. Description of Job Duty Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:The Lab Manager herein described will oversee operations in Dr. Cimona V. Hinton’s laboratory including: Serving as a liaison to regulatory divisions on campus (e.g., IACUC, Biosafety) Negotiating with vendors/service providers Purchasing and monitoring of expenditures for compliance with cost principles and budget Ensuring training and compliance for all lab personnel. Training lab personnel in research protocol and methodology Maintaining laboratory infrastructure including inventory and equipment


The Lab Manager will be responsible for conducting scientific experiments, working with internal and external collaborators to allocate space and resources in the lab, maintaining laboratory stocks, research tools and inventory, analyzing data, and preparing it for publication.
Job Responsibilities: Performs and coordinates a wide range of research procedures and conducts a variety of complex support tasks and projects determined by Dr. Cimona V. Hinton. Assist in the process of developing IACUC studies, protocol management and reporting. Conduct laboratory experiments in the primary laboratory and the Center for Laboratory Animal Resources at Morehouse School of Medicine. Follow established procedures to prepare solutions, media, and reagents using standard and scientific arithmetical calculations. Prepare reports, graphs, figures, slide presentations, and tables. Maintain lab hygiene, including dishwashing, autoclaving, and others. Complete all documentation of lab safety and operations, and coordinate lab inspections. Manage compliance and interactions with regulatory entities, including IACUC and Biosafety. Package waste material and arrange for disposal according to established procedures. Assist with preparing and submitting IACUC protocols, continuations, and other regulatory documentation. Ensure compliance with CLAR/MSM and federal regulations related to studies that include live animal models. Perform administrative tasks such as filing, typing, labeling, billing, inventory, and requisition of lab equipment, supplies and materials. Provide hands-on training to all lab personnel. Maintain research data in electronic and written laboratory notebooks, prepare summary reports and slide presentations, and report findings to the principal investigator. Perform basic repair and troubleshooting of experiments and scientific equipment.
