Laboratory Manager
The Lee Laboratory within the Institute for Cell Engineering is seek a **_Laboratory Manager_** to manage day-to-day operations of the laboratory group **_._** The position will provide supervision and technical assistance to research study staff on all aspects of study operations. This will include recruitment, study design, data collection, data management and analysis. Requires a high level of independence, decision making authority and minimal supervision. **Specific Duties & Responsibilities** + Oversee, orient and train students, technical staff, and collaborators on laboratory SOPs. Serve as technical support for equipment and protocols. + Ensure the laboratory is well maintained, appropriately stocked and functioning at maximum efficiency. + Ensure and maintain biosafety registration records for all faculty. + Develop organizational procedures and policies for the lab. + Develop new and improved laboratory techniques using literature searches, communication with collaborators and other investigators. + Ensure that the laboratory, faculty, students and staff comply with all occupational health, radiation and laboratory safety regulatory requirements. + Make decisions about laboratory supply and capital equipment purchases. Research products and pricing and make recommendations to the department director. + Maintain and troubleshoot equipment. Initiate external service agreements after researching vendors, services provided and costs. + Develop and implement new safety protocols to comply with university guidelines. + Mentor, supervise and train students and staff on research protocols. + Involved in recommendations for hiring, staff development, and performance appraisals for research staff. + Develop, write, implement and troubleshoot laboratory protocols. + Conduct primary research according to the grants’ specific aims. Design experiments, analyze data and provide technical expertise. + Run laboratory meetings in the PI’s absence. + Contribute to writing and editing grants. + Contribute to editing and co-authoring manuscripts. + Present primary research at meetings and conferences. **Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Exercises professional judgment and assume complete responsibility for decisions, consequences and results. Engages in regular and continuous decision making having an impact on people, costs and results. + Mature judgment, strong communication skills and demonstrated leadership ability. + Knowledge with Stem Cell Biology. + Knowledge of research laboratory management. **Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field. + Five years related experience, including proven technical knowledge and laboratory experience. + Master's Degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience in working with pluripotent stem cells and their transplantation into experimental animal models.
