Laboratory Manager (Full-time) - Hilo Medical Center, Hilo, HI

As a Laboratory Manager, you will assist the Pathologist and Operations Manager or designate in planning objectives and scope of the hospital/ medical center laboratory services to ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of services.

Base salary range: 95k to $120k D.O.E.

Annual Performance Bonus Eligible

Under the Supervision of a Pathologist and or other Senior CLH Leaders, and in accordance with Company policies, procedures and guidelines. In this role, you will:   

Manages the daily activities of the laboratory to ensure quality services are rendered in an efficient and timely mannerMaintains and assists with continual compliance as required by standards of accrediting or regulatory agenciesDevelops and maintains department policy and procedure manuals.  May evaluate and implement new procedures as directedEstablishes and monitors the standards of accuracy, precision and efficiency in performance of laboratory tests or the operation of equipment.  Takes corrective action and documents resultsAssures compliance with laboratory and hospital safety and infection control policiesAssures CLH Employee Guidelines and Compliance Policies are implemented and followedAssists with recruiting efforts and handles and/or participates in the termination process as requiredMonitors employee performance, completes and conducts periodic evaluations, counsels and disciplines as necessary in accordance with Guidelines.Oversees or prepares employee schedules, approves timesheets, approves and monitors PTO to ensure availability to handle daily activities effectivelyContinuously trains and updates the team on new policies/procedures and other informationDevelops positive relationships with employees, system’s supervisors and managers, physicians and outside contacts.  Promotes a team effort within the department and supports the same effort system-wide.  Must have a willingness to implement new procedures and comply with new policiesMaintains high level of proficiency and current knowledge of trends in laboratory medicine.  Provides clinical orientation on new equipment and methodology and coordinates continuing education and in-services for staff with Education Coordinator. Directs the preparation of department reports as required by corporate or hospital managementConsults with medical, nursing and administration on regular basis to coordinate quality patient careDirects age appropriate care for the patient population.  Oversees clinical testing that   produces laboratory results for use by the health care team in the assessment and treatment of the patientCorrelates clinical information and/or previous lab results to evaluate the validity of current results.  Reports results accordinglyMaintains strict HIPAA confidentiality in all situations and with all documentationMaintains consistent and reliable attendance and complies with company guidelines on attendanceAs technical consultant, is responsible for technical and scientific oversight of the outreach lab (where applicable) and must be accessible to the lab to provide onsite, telephone, or electronic consultation.  The technical consultant is responsible for (1) Selection of test methodology, (2) Verification of test procedures performed, test performance characteristics, including precision and accuracy, (3) Enrollment and participation in proficiency testing programs, (4) Establishing a QC program and establishing parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels are maintained, (5) Resolving technical problems, (6) Identifying training needs and assuring that each individual receives regular in-service training and education, (7) Evaluating competency of all testing personnel and assuring that staff maintain their competencyMonitors financial reports to meet company financial goalsAdheres to confidentiality, safety, compliance, and legal requirementsPerforms other duties as assigned

All you need is:

Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology or related science from an accredited programCurrent certification or registration as a Medical Technologist such as ASCP, NCA, HEW, AMT, or equivalentValid and current State of Hawaii license as a Medical TechnologistMinimum of (5) year’s clinical laboratory experience in a hospital/commercial lab setting. The Medical Director may use discretion in assignment of supervisory position to individual with less than (5) years of experience.For hospital settings, additional requirements may apply and change without notice, including but not limited to, criminal background check, health clearance and hospital compliance training.Strong reading, writing, and analytical skillsStrong computer skills (Word and Excel) and knowledge in lab information systems is required.

Bonus points if you’ve got:

5 years of laboratory experience and minimum of two (5) years supervisory experience in a hospital/commercial lab setting.
