Your Role
Gensler’s San Francisco office is looking for a Senior-Level Laboratory Planner with 10+ years of experience. As a Gensler Lab Planner, you will have experience with pre-design, programming & laboratory planning, feasibility studies, and detailed lab design and documentation knowledge. We are looking for a subject matter expert who can lead our teams on the design and documentation of complex lab projects - research and clinical labs, vivaria and other technical lab types. With exceptional client relationship skills, and a portfolio of innovative design solutions, you will work collaboratively with others within the region and the wider Gensler network. This role will join a team of innovative designers and thinkers delivering best-in-class, sustainability-driven projects and help lead the dialogue on lab design innovation and mentor the next generation of life science design professionals.
What You Will Do
Work directly with clients, scientists, researchers and related end-users to develop laboratory planning strategies, program documents, lab room data sheets and workflow diagrams at all levels of detail, including new construction and renovations. Offer and support creative, sustainability-focused laboratory planning, technical design and detailing decisions that are in line with project goals, yet pushing the envelope beyond traditional approaches to lab design, particularly in private industry Provide technical lab, documentation oversight and quality control (QC) reviews. Provide or follow verbal and written instructions to revise, develop and produce plans, elevations and details appropriately. Specific responsibilities during the design phase(s) include, production of detailed lab plans and related details, coordination with MEP and other consultants, ensuring compliancy with life safety and regulatory agency code requirements for laboratory spaces. Direct and produce documentation in accordance with identified project specific checklists, Gensler standards and QA/QC standard program. Day-to-day project work of laboratory projects from initial planning through construction administration Work in collaboration with the entire architectural design team to create an integrated user experienceYour Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture with 10+ years of related experience. Revit use required. Knowledge of laboratory programming delivery and how design impacts those systems –including space, operational, and equipment programming, as well as MEP systems and casework. Substantial experience working directly with senior management representatives, scientists, laboratory managers and technicians, facilities and project managers, and other project stakeholders in determining and documenting programmatic requirements. Demonstrable working technical knowledge and skill set to guide discussions for laboratory room/space development in conjunction with equipment and other technical attributes. Ability to work with end users to develop process flows, planning process and critical adjacencies of research and laboratory rooms for optimum efficiency and flexibility. LEED accredited preferred. Committed to the principles of sustainable design and resilient communities, able to demonstrate this commitment in a portfolio of work. Leadership experience, including managing client expectations and mentoring junior staff Advanced knowledge of the architectural planning and design process, construction documentation, construction administration and code requirements. Possess strong presentation and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas in interviews and other presentations. Ability to collaborate effectively, developing and motivating teams of people both internally and externally, along with a desire to mentor team members.
**The base salary will be estimated between $125,000 – $160,000 plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
