**Job Summary:**
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
+ Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects; for example, perform experiments and tabulate, analyze research, pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
+ Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results also perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced.
+ Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas as well as disposing of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines.
+ Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues

**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
+ Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab
+ Experience with animal handling, small animal surgeries and/or behavioral testing
+ Experience with brain sectioning, histology, immunohistochemistry
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
+ Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
+ Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
+ Outstanding customer service skills

Laboratory Sciences Professional - 35763 University Staff
The laboratory of Dr. Quillinan in the Department of Anesthesiology has a full-time opening for an entry-level Research Services Laboratory Sciences Professional. Dr. Quillinan's Neuronal Injury Program investigates the mechanisms of brain injury, repair and plasticity following experimental stroke, cardiac arrest and traumatic brain injury. The Research Services Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional will perform small animal surgeries and neurobehavioral testing in support of projects. The Research Services Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional will also be responsible for tissue collections and histological analyses related to projects. This position will work in a collaborative team environment and will assist with lab maintenance responsibilities. Selected candidates will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and resources as well as appropriate lab space assigned to Dr. Quillinan in order to conduct their research. The Research Services Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional is expected to attend weekly lab meetings and departmental research seminars. A successful candidate will be willing to work some weekend and evening hours on occasion, not to exceed a 40 hour work week.
