Job Description

The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the laboratory to ensure that all testing is accurate and compliant. The laboratory performs testing for the agriculture sector and will be responsible for all testing, analyses, reporting, and related activities in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements, and regulatory or compliance bodies as needed.

Responsibilities Include:

Laboratory:

Responsible for the organization's laboratory operations and performance:Oversee efficient daily operations, including effective visual management of key performance indicators (KPIs) and tracking of testing activities, results and processes.Ensure that testing methods developed and used provide the quality of results to meet accuracy standards required for regulations and certification.Ensure operational adherence to applicable policies and procedures by all technical and operational staff to generate accurate and reliable results.

Administer ISO 17025 accreditation:Ensure testing traceability for all laboratory activities.Establish and maintain quality control and quality assurance programs, including trend analysis of results to ensure ongoing quality and identify quality failures as they occur.Oversee robust corrective action and non-conformance quality processes and documentation.Ensure that test result reports include pertinent information required for interpretation.Execute proficiency testing program for accredited methods.Oversee internal and external audits. Ensure timely and robust responses to any findings.

Partner with commercial team:Monitor testing volume patterns and communicate trends in laboratory service needs. Advise and administer contracts into which the lab may enter.Oversee technical consultation for laboratory customers on quality inquiries and customer interpretation of results. Support the technical, cost, timeline, and quality assessment of new testing method requests.

General:

Team Management:Build an engaging team culture that promotes collaboration, cooperation, knowledge sharing and mutual teamwork.Provide real-time coaching and feedback to team, and support career development goals for a high-performing team.Ensure effective communication and clarity around priorities and goals for the laboratory.

Department Oversight:   Follow established safety best practices, and adhere to the EnviroLogix safety policies and procedures. Report any unsafe or hazardous condition, and support corrective actions.Ensure accountability of key metrics including cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and on-time delivery  Continually learn and utilize the Ensign Bickford Operating System (EBOS) tools and foster a community of continued professional development.Develop the organization's 3-5 year plan for operational excellence consistent with applicable regulations.Lead and direct the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.Work cross-functionally with peers in other groups to ensure collaboration for shared goals.Manage the lab’s finances and budget including expenses, capital requests, inventory and more.

Reports To:     Senior Director, Operations

Skills Required:

ISO 17025 testing laboratory experience strongly preferred.Prior experience in PCR and LC-MS methods preferred.Process-oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills.Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and efficiently with remote teams.Excellent verbal & written communication skills.Ability to independently solve problems and make decisions.Analytical judgment, and critical eye for accuracy and detailHigh level of proficiency with PC based software programs.

Education and Training:

BS or BA in biological, physical, chemical, or laboratory science; advanced degree preferred.At least 10 years of experience in a laboratory setting with at least 2 years of experience in a reference laboratory setting.

Ability to work within a laboratory and office environmentAbility to utilize a computer for extended periods of timeAbility to lift up to 25 pounds as required
