Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Laboratory Supervisor for the Core Lab.
As a Laboratory Supervisor at MercyOne, you will plan, organize and supervise the daily operations of MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory technical sections.
Participates in the interview and hiring process for staff vacancies in the areas of responsibility.
Schedules staff to ensure appropriate coverage. Monitors and adjusts staffing appropriate to the workflow
Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings to disseminate information and receive feedback.
Develops and maintains orientation materials and coordinates completion of staff orientation.
Completes annual performance evaluations and annual competencies.
Performs disciplinary action when indicated.
Ensures standard operating policies and procedures are current and adhere to the Laboratory’s document control system
Ensures compliance with the requirements of laboratory regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Evaluates, recommends and coordinates new instrumentation purchases, staff training, instrument set-up and advanced troubleshooting.
Identifies and implements process changes to optimize operational workflows to achieve departmental and organizational goals
Contributes to the formation of the vision, policies, standards and culture.
Develops and maintains quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives appropriate to the areas of responsibility.
Maintains an inventory system that ensures appropriate supply levels.
Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Manager, Clinical Laboratory Director or Medical Laboratory Director
Schedule: Monday - Friday 2pm - 10:30pm or 2:30pm-11pm
General Requirements:
Registration by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a medical technologist (MT) or medical laboratory scientist (MLS) or by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) as a medical technologist, required.
Four years of clinical laboratory experience required,
For Histocompatability – three of the four year’s experience must be related to histocompatibility/transplant testing.
For all other sections – One of the four year’s experience must be related to the testing in specified laboratory section. (i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, etc. )
One (1) year supervisory experience preferred.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology or related field with one-year clinical internship in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science program or approved alternate career path as designated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA), required.
