Position Overview

Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Lab Technician to join its Dispersion development team located at the Global Innovation Center in Philadelphia, PA at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.  The successful candidate for this job will provide support to the Chemists / Engineers in the research and development process.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist in the design of experiments, conduct those experiments independently and collect, summarize and present the resulting dataTroubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occurIdentify and suggest improvements in methodsProducing research experimental results, or information/data management results, or assembling and configuring of small/pilot scale equipment and control systems utilizing a variety of techniquesMakes suggestions on path forward and contributes to formulating work plans and managing daily workflowInspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work locationMaintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work locationMaintain a safe working environmentPreparation and evaluation of coating formulations including electro-coat, primer, topcoat and clear coat using mixing equipment and various spray equipmentInterpretation and communication of test results using computer-based systems.Documentation of experimental test results using computer programs such as Word, ExcelSafely handle, categorize and dispose of chemicals on a routine basisHandling multiple tasks under strict time constraints

Minimum Requirements

High school degree or equivalent required.  Laboratory experience in college or industrial setting desired.Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work well in both self-managed and team environmentAble to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting established deadlines. Comfortable working with hazardous materialsStrong interest in hands-on work to ensure a good understanding of the products.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Possess strong computer and analytical skillsStrong problem solving and decision-making skills.Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
