Laboratory Technician
We are seeking a **_Laboratory Technician_** to assist with small-animal proton irradiation experiments, daily animal care, cell culture and maintenance of lab equipment. We also anticipate there will be opportunities for bench research techniques and assays. Main position location is Sibley Memorial Hospital Proton Center Laboratory, but occasional travel to East Baltimore campus is expected. **Specific Duties & Responsibilities** + Conduct all small-animal laboratory activities in compliance with our Animal Care and Use Committee-approved protocols and safety protocols. + Humanely caring for rodents including receiving, feeding, daily care, and post-operative or post-treatment monitoring. + Assisting with experimental preparation and protocols including anesthetizing animals, establish subcutaneous xenograft and allograft tumors in mice, injecting medications, obtaining blood samples, u other related protocols. Harvesting and processing tissues at experimental end points. + Operating and maintaining lab equipment and instruments such as centrifuges, incubators, anesthesia machine, microscopes and balances. + Perform routine instrument maintenance as well as troubleshooting; serve as point-of-contact with service engineers. + Preparing laboratory reagents necessary for tissue processing and cell culture. + Routine laboratory housekeeping tasks including dishwashing, maintaining lab area, properly disposing of chemical wastes, computer maintenance and data backup, and other duties as required. + Ordering/restocking laboratory supplies. + Teaching techniques related to experimental protocol and basic laboratory procedures to other technicians, research fellows, residents and students. + Performing data entry and ensuring complete and accurate database entry. + Communicating with and assisting Principal Investigator in reviewing and managing study data. + Attending lab meetings and planning sessions and giving oral updates on work. + Generate graphs and figures for contribution to manuscripts for publication as well as grant applications. + Attending courses in safety procedures for handling, storage and disposal of biohazardous, radioactive, flammable, corrosive and toxic materials. + Role will likely include some basic science techniques including immunohistochemistry of tissue. + Performing other duties as assigned. **Minimum Qualifications** + High School Diploma or graduation equivalent with some science coursework. **Preferred Qualifications** + Some related post-undergraduate work experience. + Certificate from a technical institute or internship experience. + Radiobiology experiments experience. + Previous experience with small-animal research.
