Job Title: Radiation Safety Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Radiation Safety Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various tasks related to the Radiation Safety Program in accordance with the Radioactive Materials License, Federal & State Regulations, and company policies.

ResponsibilitiesPerform periodic source checks of laboratory counters, ALMs, and count rate meters.Collect and analyze smears of the facility, trucks, shipping containers, garments, and facility equipment.Perform direct radiation surveys of the facility, trucks, shipping containers, the radiation area boundary, and surrounding environment.Collect and analyze air samples from within the facility and from points of discharge to the environment.Collect and analyze samples of wastewater and verify compliance prior to discharge to the sanitary sewer.Complete radioactive shipment records (RSR's) for all radioactive material shipments leaving the facility.Issue and collect personnel monitoring badges (TLDs), perform chest counts, and collect urine samples (where required) for all radiation workers.Calibrate radiation monitoring equipment as prescribed.Collect composite (water & air) and environmental (soil & sludge) samples and forward samples to the appropriate laboratory for analysis.Assist in the training of new employees and visitors, log in and escort contractors and visitors to the plant.Maintain and periodically review the plant license and suggest revisions.Perform other duties as assigned by plant management.Essential SkillsOne to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in radiation testing is highly preferred but not required.Experience in chemistry, microbiology, environmental monitoring, laboratory work, radiology, environmental science.Stable employment history with a company that has been around since the 1960s, and specific site since the 1980s.Opportunity for growth and working overtime during busy seasons (Fall and Spring).Work Environment

The position is lab-based and the facility operates 24/7, requiring candidates to be flexible with working long hours and possibly rotating shifts. The work involves operating within Federal and State radioactive regulations to collect samples and deliver them to the lab for hands-on testing. Standard hours are 7am-3:30pm Monday through Friday, with additional overtime or weekend work as needed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00
