**Responsibilities:**
The Anderson lab in the Cardiovascular Research Institute is looking for a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to assist in maintaining our mouse colony and to assist with animal and cell-based experiments in the general support of a molecular biology research laboratory. The individual will be expected to achieve the ability to function independently. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task are required. All necessary training will be provided, however experience in mouse handling, mammalian cell culture, and basic molecular biology techniques are a plus. Under general guidance from the PI with latitude for exercising considerable independent judgment of handling lab business. This position has no official supervisory responsibility.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Animal colony management for mouse colonies. Animal husbandry to include breeding, weaning, pairing, tail snip, and inventory maintenance. Data entry into established database and spreadsheet for management of animal colonies; inventory control of animal numbers and UCAR accounts
- Genotyping of transgenic mice by PCR and responsible for global animal laboratory maintenance and cleanliness. Assist and perform routine biochemical and molecular biological experiments (protein isolation, DNA/RNA isolation, gel electrophoresis).
- Perform lab maintenance tasks including maintenance of laboratory space with assistance of other lab personnel, preparing basic buffers and stock solutions.
- Orient and oversee compliance of new lab workers in health/safety and animal regulations. Provide oversight regarding compliance issues such as IBC, EH&S, Fire Safety, and UCAR inspections. Maintain computerized inventory and data sheet records.
- Order specialized materials and supplies with the information provided by lab personnel or PI. Place supply orders in a timely fashion and manage up-to-date inventory of lab chemicals and general supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree in appropriate discipline (preferably Biology) required
- 2-3 years specialized experience in related field required
- Previous work experience in a research lab preferred;
- or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Mac, PC, and MS Office. Pipettes, gel apparatus, incubator shaker, centrifuges, -80 freezer, Barnstead Water Units, NuAire Bio-safety cabinet, dissecting microscopes, various surgical instruments, PCR machine, down draft tables, perfusion apparatus, CO2 euthanasia stations, ventilated rodent housing racks preferred.
