As Laboratory Technician IV, you will work with the healthcare team to gather, interpret, document and report tests at all complexity levels. Using your knowledge of laboratory testing theories and techniques, you will focus efforts toward maintaining quality controls, established performance specifications and compliance.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 11:00PM - 7:30AM.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels.  Correlate abnormal laboratory data with pathological states.  Determine the validity of test results and the need for additional tests. Communicate test results, reference ranges, specimen requirements and other pertinent information.  Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.  Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.  Maintain instruments and equipment.  Perform proficiency testing.  Participate in continuing education, professional development and annual competency assessments.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science from a four-year college or university OR Bachelor's Degree and training equivalent to high complexity testing personnel per the CLIA

Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscopeAbility to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tonesFine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipmentStanding for long periods of timeLight lifting occasionallySome exposure to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
