JOB TITLE: Laboratory Technician - Midland, TX

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour depending on experience

 

SUMMARY: Oil and Petroleum Laboratory Technicians perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for such purposes as quality control, process control, or product development by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

· Follow all company safety procedures and guidelines.

· Operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as viscometer, densitometer, spectrophotometer, gas chromatograph, colorimeter, and other equipment.

· Test samples related to oil and gas per industry or company methods. Examples of sample types may include gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, fuel oil and petrochemicals.

· Instruments utilized for testing could include gas chromatograph, titrators, densitometers, ICP, AA, and other instruments.

· Follow all company quality procedures.

· Analyze SQC samples and compare the results to known limits.

· Prepare chemical solutions.

· Recognize and investigate suspect test results.

· Participating as a team player, understanding the success of the team is critical.

· Instrument calibration, as required.

· Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, as required.

· May work a rotating schedule including weekends and holidays and must be available to work on an on-call basis. Some overtime may be required.

· Other duties assigned by management.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s Degree preferred for some technician and other laboratory roles.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to execute basic algebra as it applies to the role.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and with explosive material and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock.
