Shift Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Job Summary Located at Princeton, Ky. The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment department of Regulatory Services seeks a Laboratory Tech Senior at the Agricultural Experiment Station in Princeton, KY. The position will prepare and analyze soil samples for soil fertility in a production-oriented laboratory. Duties include receiving, organizing and labeling samples; logging in sample information, drying, grinding, sieving, measuring, extracting, analysis, and cleaning. Laboratory testing includes pH, buffer pH, Mehlich III extractable nutrients and nitrate nitrogen. Must follow safe laboratory procedures, prepare chemical standards and reagents with minimal supervision, and maintain an inventory of chemicals and supplies. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities The applicant must be able to follow written laboratory procedures and safety protocols. Preparing solutions, reagents, and standards is required. There is also some heavy lifting required (approximately 50 lbs). Attention to details and a willingness to help others are needed. Familiarity with ICP-OES instruments, ion-selective electrode methodology, pH meter operation, and soil grinding is helpful. Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access is helpful. Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?
