Summary This Laborer position is located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS) at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital , Hines, IL. This position performs duties in support of EMS operations requiring heavy physical efforts and the use of common hand tools, power tools, and gas/electric powered motorized equipment. Responsibilities Duties Include: Maintains sanitation of facility exterior sidewalks and walkways using variety of equipment to include commercial motorized sweepers, gas powered hot water pressure washing systems, and extra heavy-duty buffers designed to scrub concrete. Collects Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) from storage areas and disposal utilizing onside Autoclave Sterilizer/compactor system. Maintains sanitation of outside operations area using facility approved cleaning chemicals and equipment. Collects and disposes of trash from interior and exterior waste receptacles to include cleaning and disinfecting receptacles. Removes trash around dumpsters. Cleans facilities first level exterior windows using manual and gas/electric powered window washing equipment. Monitors entrance and exits for trash and debris and addresses as needed. Removes trash and debris around facility perimeter to include immediate sidewalks, curbs, and bus shelters. Performs minimal floor care equipment repairs (changing squeegees/watering batteries/tagging broken pieces out etc.). Supplies housekeeping closets with needed supplies. Performs other additional ancillary duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Work Schedule will be discussed at interview. Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be physically able to do a considerable amount of walking, standing, climbing ladders, stooping, bending, and crawling. Incumbent must be able to work in congested areas in tight cramped and awkward positions. Incumbent will be required to carry and setup ladders and scaffolding. Incumbent will be required to lift and carry heavy equipment or supplies that weighs over 50 pounds regularly. Incumbent will be exposed to various chemicals and shall need to be fit tested for proper PPE and respirator. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed out of doors and the incumbent is regularly exposed to extremes of temperature, inclement weather, dust, mud, now, ice and hot sun.
