Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The District Summer Hire Program runs May to August 2025. Multiple positions may be filled. Responsibilities Operates powered lawnmowers requiring heavy physical effort with steep grades and slopes. Cuts trees and clears bushes and shrubs requiring the use of axes and chain saws. Plants and transplants a variety of plants and shrubs. Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where dirt is hard and compact. Performs grading and sloping and occasionally breaks up pavement and concrete with jackhammer. Assists in the construction and landscaping of campsites and picnic sites. Loads and unloads heavy (e.g., objects weighing in excess of 80 pounds) boxes, bulky supplies and material to and from trucks, pullies, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laborer ~ without more than normal supervision. - I have the ability to perform common maintenance procedures. I can plant a variety of shrubs and grass. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work in this position exerts very heavy physical effort in lifting and carrying objects, e.g., cartons, boxes and sacks weighing in excess of 80 pounds. Operates powered lawnmowers on steep grades, cuts trees with an ax or chain saw, digs ditches or trenches with pick and shovel, and pushes wheelbarrows of cement, asphalt and other materials. The position works outside in a variety of weather and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, dirty and noisy. Employee is frequently subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strains and sprains; mishandling of the equipment, tools, and tasks involved at this level, may result in more serious injuries. Special care must be exercised to avoid such serious injury while using tools and equipment. Education This position does not have an education requirement. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Enhanced Annual leave and credit for Non-Federal Service may not be authorized. Advanced In-Hire Rate may not be authorized. Relocation/Recruitment/Retention Incentive may not be authorized.
