Summary This position serves as an Orderly and is responsible for supporting the needs of Veterans in the Roseburg VA Healthcare System. This position has high visibility throughout the institution and requires excellent customer service skills. The incumbent assists in all aspects of support for patient care, including the movement of patients, equipment, supplies, and staff assistance at the Roseburg VA Health Care System. **Temporary Appointment-Not to Exceed 1 year** Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to): - The Orderly is primarily responsible for the safe and efficient movement of stable Veterans, alone or with a nursing staff member as needed. - Assists with therapeutic recreation by transporting Veterans and assisting with maintaining the safety of Veterans during the program. - Assists with Rehabilitation activities through patient transport and equipment assembly and delivery. - Checking Veteran's identification and escort destination before transporting to ensure proper patient identification & location. Ensures Veterans have a "ticket to ride" before transporting CLC Veterans. - Close observation of Veterans with provider order. - As requested, discharged patients are taken to the door to await transportation. - Assist with the care needs of Resident Pets in the Community Living Center. - Receives requests and complies with excellent customer service and phone etiquette. - Responds to requests to procure supplies, equipment, etc., from and for various facility areas as requested by the unit assigned. - Transports lab specimens from unit to lab in lab-approved containers. - Provides and transports equipment as available. - Disinfect / wipe down the equipment with an approved cleaning product before and after each Veteran transport. - Rounds regularly on inpatient wards to ensure Reusable Equipment is clean and disinfected for staff use. - Responsible for notifying nursing or ancillary personnel upon arrival or departure of patients. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer (NTE)/PD30722A Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be able to be on feet for the majority of the day. Will be required to stand and walk up to 8 hours a day throughout the facility. Will be required to climb and descend stairs to reach certain destinations. Must have no lifting restrictions. Will be required to push and pull wheelchairs and other equipment weighing up to 400 pounds. Will be required to push and pull beds and equipment, with assistance, weighing up to 1000 pounds. Will be required to transport supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. Transporting patient belongings and miscellaneous equipment weighing up to 20 pounds will be required. Will be required to transport patients and items up and down an incline of 1 inch per foot. Bilateral motor coordination will be required to handle patients and equipment. Will be required to assist with physical management of disruptive behavior in patients. Working Conditions: The work will be performed on the grounds of the Roseburg VA Health Care System, primarily within the facility. Main duties include transporting patients, assisting with disruptive behavior patients in a clinical setting, gathering supplies, and cleaning reusable medical equipment. Daily occurrences will be pushing and pulling hospital equipment, walking distances, taking stairs, and answering phones. Retrieving equipment from around the hospital and grounds and delivering equipment to various areas is expected. Assisting clinical staff with obtaining equipment and other patient support items will be needed. The work in a Medical Center setting involves possible exposure to contagious diseases, which will require appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet specialized experience within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 01/02/2025 EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Related experiences includes such tasks as transporting patients, disinfect / wipe down equipment, communication with Nursing Staff, safeguard documents, procure supplies, equipment, and deliver to unit. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
