Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

Must have hazardous waste experience and/or be able to successfully complete a 40 hr HAZWOPER certification (prior to start date).High school diploma or GED.Legally eligible to work in the United States (verified through E-Verify).Must be able to interpret and follow written and oral instructions and assignments.While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to read text on a computer screen and in hard copy, stand or sit, talk, and hear.Exposure to moderate levels of noise in a well-lit, well-ventilated and moderately paced environment.Employee must always have good balance and coordination in order to safely walk over uneven and/or slippery surfaces.Must be able to kneel, climb ladders, and stairs. Must be able to work in cold/hot weather while wearing required PPE (e.g. chemical protective clothing, respirators, goggles, etc.).Employee must be able to write in English, read in EnglishRepetitive and prolonged postures involving standing, sitting, twisting, squatting, kneeling, stooping and reaching to full range from above the head to the ground.Employee must have the ability to move extremities and spine through full physiological range of motion that will permit the employee to work in a variety of postures involving postures allowing reaching with hands from ground level to overhead level. Qualifications

Physical Demands:

Operation of motor vehiclesDriving, riding ATV/UTVOperation of heavy equipment, aircraft, marine craft, etc.Walking, Standing, Twisting, turning upper body, Twisting, turning arms, legs, Crawling, kneeling, stooping, Wear ANSI approved safety footwear, Wearing hard hatLifting/Carrying/pushing/pulling: 1 – 75 lbs.

Environmental Conditions:

Outside work

Excessive cold < 0o F

Exposure to dust, fumes, smoke or gases,

Solvents, chemicals,

Walking on slippery, uneven surfaces, Working on or around hazardous machinery

Working alone

Remote work sites (no dispensary or hospital)

Long and/or irregular hours

Day shift and/or night shift rotations

 

Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs

All employees must pass Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all UIC Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.

If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
