LAC - Program Coordinator

 LAC Federal is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Program Coordinator to support a comprehensive archival analysis and cataloging project. The successful candidate will coordinate planning, logistics, and execution phases to ensure effective and efficient processing of archival materials. This role involves managing on-site teams, coordinating with subject matter experts, and overseeing both traditional and non-traditional cataloging efforts. A strong background in archival or library science and experience in complex project management is required.


Responsibilities

Collection Assessment and Prioritization  Determine and evaluate the perceived value of materials, prioritizing items for processing based on user needs and project goals. Identify and categorize record subsets requiring specialized resources, such as digitization or linguistic analysis. Analyze and recommend the appropriate depth of metadata (minimal, full, or system-generated) for each collection. Sample Size and Strategy Development  Establish accurate sample sizes and develop strategies for the most effective processing steps. Ensure historical materials are managed thoughtfully and accurately, with attention to preservation. On-Site Project Coordination  Organize and oversee the logistics for on-site analysis, including material transport and setup. Coordinate with and manage on-site staff to facilitate efficient project execution. Conduct on-site assessments and manage any required travel as needed for project operations. Team Coordination and Project Management  Lead and coordinate data, technology, and cataloging teams to ensure seamless collaboration and task execution. Engage with subject matter experts, including traditional catalogers and linguistics specialists, to address specialized requirements. Material Documentation and Analysis  Document key material attributes, including type, format, language, and historical significance. Identify opportunities for collection-level cataloging, such as finding aids or MARC records, and assess duplication within the collection. Evaluate copyright status, scientific/historical value, and potential technological applications, including data modeling. Cataloging Execution  Oversee the execution of cataloging workflows and the creation of preliminary records, including item holdings for inventory       control. Manage the prioritization process and adapt workflows to align with ongoing project requirements. Requirements


MLIS with a concentration in archival studies, library science, or a related field preferredMinimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management within an archival or library science setting.Demonstrated experience in handling and processing historical or delicate materials.Proven ability to manage and coordinate cross-functional teams, including technical and traditional cataloging  specialists.Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to travel for on-site project activitiesExperience with special collections and standard archival/cataloging methods for a medical library is preferable

  

Physical Requirements

Must be able to move from place to place within the location, lifting of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to 35 pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
