**Description:**
Acts as a resource to the Manager and colleagues by coordinating patient care activities and is subject matter expert in the department.
Will provide clinical oversight and coordination for breastfeeding support services. Consultation, educational support and staff development activities that provide the bedside nurse with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to educate and support breastfeeding will be critical to the success of this position. In addition, the lactation consultant coordinator will provide consultative and educational services to mothers and their family members to assist them in optimal feeding practices that support the growth and development of newborns and toddlers. Ultimate responsibility and accountability for day-to-day direct patient care will continue to rest on the individual nurse responsible for the patient, unit-based resource nurses and the Nurse Manager of each unit. The Lactation Consultant Coordinator will also serve as the coordinator of our Baby Friendly initiative.
Is required to maintain an extensive and diverse knowledge base, flexibility in practice and the need to be adaptable to changes in technology, legislation and breastfeeding practices. Incorporates ethical and legal requirements in their professional practice as a member of the health care team.

**JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES**
**Education:** High school diploma or equivalent. College credits toward Associate Degree (in any field) or LPN preferred.
**Licensure:** Current IBCLC Certification or working toward certification.
**Experience:** Minimum 2-3 years direct counseling experience with breastfeeding families.
**Other Job Requirements:**
Strong communication skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to understand human behavior.
Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
