Summary
The Lactation Consultant (LC) is responsible for the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding families toward improved maternal and child health. The LC is responsible for the management of the breastfeeding patient based on the established standards of the IBCLC. The LC provides quality patient services in support of the hospital's mission, vision, values, policies and procedures. This requires assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the management of the breastfeeding needs of the patient through clinical knowledge and skills. The lactation consultant functions in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Required Education: Graduate of an accredited program of RN education or LPN program
Preferred Education: BSN preferred
Minimum of one-year experience with lactating clients and 3 or more years preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must be a Registered Nurse OR Licensed Practical Nurse licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Certification required; BLS certification required (AHA)
