Department Profile:

 

The Duke Birthing Center at Duke University Hospital is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time. 
This position is for the postpartum section of the Duke Birthing Center, serving primarily high risk families. The facilities were recently renovated with 24 designated postpartum beds. This unit provides care for more than 3500 families each year, supporting rooming in accommodations. This unit was recently recognized as the # 1 Maternity Care Center in North Carolina!

Ideal candidates will be able to function as a part of a large multidisciplinary team in a shared governance environment, and have a passion for  family centered care. Multiple opportunities here for growth and development through committee work and education!


Position Summary
The Lactation Consultant Nurse Clinician is an expert in the management of the mother-baby dyad and family that are having complex lactation and nursing issues. S/he is clinician, teacher, consultant, and leader. As a consultant, s/he works collaboratively with the Birthing Center and nursing care teams to develop complex feeding plans. S/he makes clinical assessments, and use current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues while respecting the physician’s and family’s breastfeeding goals.
 

Hours:
Days; 8,10, or 12 hour shifts

 

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required: 

·        Previous work experience (3+ years) as a clinical nurse is required.

·        BSN required

 
Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

·        Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.

·        BLS (or higher) certification required.

·        Professional specialty certification (preferred).
