Job Summary: The Lactation Counselor is a Certified Lactation Counselor responsible for educating the new mother regarding all aspects of baby care with the emphasis placed on breastfeeding. The Lactation Counselor should support breastfeeding and should make attempts to follow up with the obstetrical patients via phone after discharge from the hospital. The Lactation Counselor or her designee should be available 24 hours a day for questions and concerns regarding breastfeeding. The Lactation Counselor should also provide training to the Maternal Services staff nurses in order to provide and facilitate consistent and accurate breastfeeding information. The Lactation Counselor should be able to develop programs, educate staff and coordinate with area Pediatrician offices to assist mothers post discharge from the hospital.
Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Experience preferred.
Licenses / Certifications: Must maintain Lactation Counselor (IBCLC or CLC) certification. Must maintain current BLS certification.
