Hours of Work: Up to 80 hours bi-weekly

Summary

This position is responsible for traffic control at the bin area, working face and recycling areas and assists in the maintenance and clean-up of the site. Liaises with customers in a friendly and helpful manner and helps regulate the disposal and recycling materials being received.

Key Duties & Responsibilities Responsible for the bin, working face and/or recycling areas. Greets and provides instructions to customers regarding the use of the facility. Directs traffic in a safe and orderly manner. Records number of roll-off bins emptied per day. Regulates disposal of recyclable and banned materials. Maintains and cleans bin and recycling area. Assists in daily clean-up and maintenance of the landfill site. Monitors disposal of refuse to ensure adherence to bylaws. Maintains turning areas and roadways free of litter and debris. Assists customers with the sorting and depositing of recyclable materials. Monitors incoming materials and maintains statistical information regarding received materials. Operates compactor bins. Services food waste transfer bins. Schedules and records the hauling of recyclable materials offsite to various processors. Coordinates the removal of selected reusable goods from the facility by approved charities. Provides basic customer education on recycling and hands out printed information. Collects data periodically as part of customer surveys. Maintains physical appearance and tidiness of recycling facility. Performs ongoing site maintenance and general duties. Operates light service vehicles. Provides emergency response, as required. Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD. Performs other related duties as required.Additional Information NoneKey Skills & Abilities Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions of a non-technical nature. Ability to work in a busy environment, work under stress and maintain an excellent, friendly working relationship with all users of the landfill. Demonstrated ability to deal with customers in a professional and tactful manner while demonstrating good judgement. Knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, site regulations and pertinent bylaws. Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions. Physically able to perform required duties (lifting, bending, reaching, standing, etc.)Qualifications High School Graduation Some directly related experience Certifications Valid BC Driver's Licence
