Job Description
We are seeking a Landscape Designer or Landscape Architect to join our growing Landscape Design Team. In this position, you will assist staff with ongoing landscape architecture projects, including the preparation of concept plans, site plans, details, construction drawings, site analysis, and presentation graphics. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious professional with technical competency and an understanding of best practices in landscape architecture and related disciplines.
ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with staff on design packages for projects such as healthcare facilities, regional trails, urban plazas, residential developments, large commercial centers, and corporate campuses.Analyze data on conditions such as site location, drainage, or structure location for environmental reports or landscaping plans.Integrate existing and proposed land features and structures into designs.Prepare plans using CAD software.Select appropriate materials for use in landscape designs.Analyze environmental reports on land conditions, such as drainage and energy usage.Assist in the preparation of landscape plans, site plans, hardscape details, construction drawings, site analysis, and presentation graphics.Coordinate the preparation of project drawings, exhibits, and calculations with other engineers, designers, and technicians.Communicate with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project.Seek appropriate guidance in resolving various project-related issues.Manage time effectively, organize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet project deadlines and client needs.Visit project sites to review conditions as appropriate.Develop and prepare graphic designs and renderings.Prepare construction documents and specifications.Write clearly and communicate effectively.Develop site plans and understand topography.Develop technical drawings, including grading, layout, planting plans, details, etc.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or Civil EngineeringProficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)3 plus years of experience preparing schematic design, design development, and construction documents for various site development projectsWorking knowledge of landscape and native plants in the Midwest regionExperience working in a landscape architectural office, professional design office, architectural firm, or engineering firmExperience in one or more of the following areas: Government, schools, housing development, land development, parks and recreation planningGrading experienceAdditional Skills & QualificationsUrban Planning or Site Development experienceProject Management skillsConstruction Management skillsCost Estimating skillsCity of Detroit project experienceLicensedWork Environment
Standard work hours are Monday to Friday, 40-45 hours per week, with paid overtime. You can work out of any of our metro Detroit or Lansing offices. Initial training will require spending 3 days per week in the Lansing office for the first 4-6 weeks.
