Laser Applications Engineer

The Coherent Corp location in Plymouth, MI is seeing a Laser Applications Engineer. The Laser Applications Engineer is responsible for Development/prototyping/troubleshooting of customer applications at Coherent and at customer sites, both pre and post-sale.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Development/prototyping/troubleshooting of customer applications at Coherent and at customer sites, both pre and post sale. Assist in the development new lab systems including tasks such as CAD design, system's controls, assembly of components, lasers and optics Customer application training both at Coherent and at customer sites; development of initial customer applications parameters in factory and/or at customer site (on occasion). Responsibility for the some of the lab's equipment maintenance and upgrades Maintain and continue to pursue new Applications expertise for ultrafast, ns and CW lasers: publish of applications notes, perform product demonstrations, present at technical conferences. Primary interface to sales team/customers answering applications related questions. Provide specifications for and be key participant in engineering projects for development of applications-based product accessories.

Education & Experience

Experience working with lasers, optics or material processing in a laboratory environment and a strong technical knowledge of industrial laser products Experience with controls system, programming and CAD is preferred Bachelor in engineering or other related field is required Master or higher degree in material science or engineering is preferred
• Excellent reporting and presentation skills
• Laser application experience > 5 years
• Ability to travel in the US and world-wide: Expected Travel ~ 20%
