The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs. Jacobs provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Ground Systems Support (GSS) organization is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer for the Launch Equipment Shop (LES) who supports multiple programs for National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA). The candidate will provide work order development, engineering review, specification review, component selection, and oversight of fabrication as well as troubleshooting and repair guidance for manufacturing equipment. A background in manufacturing, fabrication, and production planning is highly desirable. **Responsibilities** Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: + Demonstrate master proficiency of required procedures for the metal shops (sheet metal, machine shop, welding) and equipment maintenance, process instructions, and operational requirements based on functional workload. + Demonstrate advanced communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate work status, resolve technical issues, and assist in troubleshooting and identifying solutions to ensure continuation of work to meet demanding schedules. + Provide day-to-day technical leadership of manufacturing responsibilities through collaboration with a team of technicians, shop management, support organizations and design engineering to ensure timely execution of planned and scheduled work to meet program critical milestones in a safe manner. + Coordinate with Work Management to properly identify resources, work execution tasks, and task duration required to effectively plan manufacturing activities as well as ensure timely work instruction development to support scheduled work based on priority. + Interface, coordinate and communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, flow/project managers, work control and management to provide technical assistance during the manufacturing processes. + Collaborate with Design Engineering, Logistics, Quality Assurance, Configuration Management and Work Management to ensure timely execution and delivery of quality products. + Actively participate in daily scheduling meetings to understand work priorities and resolve technical issues. + Provide quick identification, resolution, and communication regarding any challenges to scheduled work. + Lead and participate in pre-task briefings as required for assigned jobs or projects. + Provide communication and documentation to ensure safe execution of work. + Subject Matter Expert for technical documentation in areas of responsibility (including but not limited to desk instructions, technical documents, operating procedures, etc.) + Build strong relationships based on trust, integrity, and keeping commitments. + Collaborates with internal and external shop managers, engineers, work management, project managers, and other support organizations to maximize the value of integration and continuous improvement across the enterprise. + Supports managers in the performance of functional analysis and critical thinking to identify areas for improvement, corrective actions, and potential training. + Assist managers in the translation of directorate goals and objectives into innovative operational and tactical execution techniques. + Perform other duties as assigned. **Qualifications - External** **Job Requirements** **Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution.** **This position will be considered at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.** + Excellent communication, presentation, and customer interface skills with a proven ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment as required to coordinate and technically plan work activities including inter-organizational support. + Experience working with union represented employees, understanding and ensuring compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements, is highly desirable. + Ability to lead multiple projects and priorities across areas of responsibility. + Technical aptitude with experience in metal shop crafts (machining, welding, and sheet metal) and maintenance along with the ability to understand the execution of the work to maximize the efficiency of the crews and their activities. + Must be organized and detail oriented. + Experience in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Quality Management Systems (QMS), Inventory Management software, and Product Life Cycle management (PLM) Systems highly desired. + Experience with KSC and Manufacturing Industry standards is desirable. + Must be able to read, follow and develop work instructions, interpret engineering drawings/schematics, and follow strict work area rules and safety protocols. + Must be able coordinate work between multiple disciplines in the fabrication process to ensure the continuation of work across crafts. + Capable of leading and performing complex assignments without direct management involvement. + Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary. + Must be able to travel to support position requirements. + Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, employees and management. **Essential Functions** **Physical Requirements** + Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting. + Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary. + Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment. + Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. + Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures. + Must be able to work in tight confined space areas. **Work Environment** + All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards. + Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex. + Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site. + Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. **Equipment and Machines** + Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers. + Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance. + Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies. **Attendance** + Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week. + Must be dependable and punctual. + Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule **Other Essential Functions** + If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required. + Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills. + Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives. + Government security clearance may be required in the future. + Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel.
