Summary The primary function of this position is to serve as Laundry Worker for the Laundry Section, Facility Management Service at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS), San Juan, Puerto Rico. Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: Collects from all the assigned areas the soiled textiles as required by the established schedule. Manipulates large quantities of linens via monorail system. Prepares and waxes the flat-work ironer at the beginning of each day. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/29/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Employee must use the proper body motion and coordination and possess the strength and stamina for doing heavy physical tasks for long periods of time. Must be able to handle loaded carts in excess of 700 Lbs and to lift loads over 50 Lbs. Uses the provided safety garments during the performance of all the assigned duties. Assist in other areas of the plant during idle time or breakdowns of the assigned equipment and takes proper action to correct the problem. Working Conditions: Employee is exposed to noise, vibration and hot and humid atmospheric conditions associated with textile care setting. Requires walking continuously on concrete floors, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting.
