Layout Worker - Substation Engineering

About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

Responsibilities at the lower level include:

Under close supervision or direction, prepares accurate AutoCAD drawings for substations and/or transmission lines of a basic nature from marked prints and/or verbal instructions. This includes, but is not limited to: electrical layouts, AC&DC Systems, grounding, oil containment, relay and control schematics and detail wiring diagrams, conduit layouts, control building layouts, one-line diagrams, structure drawings, plan-profile drawings, wire arrangements, property drawings, route maps, and location maps. Must assist with surveying projects. Must be available for Hazard Responding. All work must be completed in a timely, proficient manner to meet project schedules. Performs other related duties for which he/she is qualified and has received proper instruction or direction. Regularly and customarily assist Engineers or Layout's of a higher grade in the performance of field and office work.

Qualifications at the lower level include:

Must be a High School graduate or possess a GED equivalency and a graduate from a Company approved AutoCAD drafting program. The successful candidate must be able to understand and apply any command in AutoCAD to create, dimension, and print models and/or drawings. They must have the following skills: Use basic CAD equipment to coordinate systems and software used with CAD programs. Be familiar with the use of drafting equipment, media and reproduction methods. Perform Dimensioning, Geometric Construction and Geometric Tolerancing Accurately perform AutoCAD commands. Prepare electrical and electronic schematics with AutoCAD. Must have satisfactorily completed Company approved courses Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Physics, AC & DC electrical theory, and Static's. An Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil engineering will satisfy the requirements in lieu of the courses specified above. In addition, must have completed a Company approved course(s) in Advanced AutoCAD and must be computer literate which include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be familiar with Company's Safety Rules. Must have the ability to work safely, both in the office and in the field. Must develop a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code, Company Construction Manuals, Materials Manuals, Engineering Manuals and proper accounting. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. As a Layout Assistant must complete six months but not more than two years of experience as a Layout Assistant and must successfully demonstrate the skills required for a Layout Jr. classification. Must have effective oral and written communication skills to clearly, accurately and effectively exchange information with others. Must be able to meet deadlines. Must be willing and able to work: Extra and/or irregular hours as required. Under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings. According to Company engineering standards and practices. With highest degree of integrity and self-discipline. Complying with Company Standards of attire. Away from home base for periods of time.

Responsibilities at the mid-level include:

Under close supervision or direction, assists an Engineer or Layout of a higher grade with minor substation and/or transmission projects and survey work, and maintenance of system diagrams and maps. Under close directive supervision prepares accurate AutoCAD drawings for substations and/or transmission lines of a basic nature from marked prints and/or verbal instructions. This includes, but is not limited to: electrical layouts, AC&DC Systems, grounding, oil containment, relay and control schematics and detail wiring diagrams, conduit layouts, control building layouts, one-line diagrams, structure drawings, plan-profile drawings from field notes, wire arrangements, property drawings, route maps, and location maps. Must assist with surveying projects. Must be available for Hazard Responding. Prepares accurate Bill of Materials for basic substation projects. All work must be completed in a timely, proficient manner to meet project schedules. Performs other related duties for which he/she is qualified and has received proper instruction or direction. Regularly and customarily assists Engineers or Layout's of a higher grade in the performance of field and office work.

 

Qualifications at the mid-level include:

 Must have completed six months of experience as a Layout Assistant or equivalent experience and must have demonstrated skills required for a Layout Jr. Must be familiar with Company's Safety Rules. Must have the ability to work safely, both in the office and in the field. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must have thorough knowledge of Company Construction Manuals, Materials Manuals, Engineering Manuals and proper accounting. Must have thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code. As a Layout Jr. must complete six months but not more than four years of experience as a Layout Jr. and must successfully demonstrate the skills required for the Layout I classification. Must have effective oral and written communication skills to clearly, accurately and effectively exchange information with others. Must be able to meet deadlines. Must be willing and able to work: Extra and/or irregular hours as required. Under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings. According to Company engineering standards and practices.
