Overview
New York Medical College seeks a full-time Licensed Clinical Social Worker to provide direct care to students for our student population of medical, dental, and graduate students. Our team plays an integral role in student success and is focused on providing mental health and wellness support to students in all graduate programs of the College. Under the supervision of the Associate Vice Chancellor, the LCSW is responsible for a variety of direct clinical responsibilities, including, but not limited to, conducting assessment and triage; time-limited psychotherapy and supportive counseling; identification of, and liaison with outside psychological resources and social supports, group counseling, and timely care for high-risk individuals. This role also includes establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with diverse campus constituencies including students, administration, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities
Clinical Hours & Counseling(75%)
+ Deliver short term individual therapy and conduct a needs-based assessment, including triage, clinical consultation, coordinating treatment with other professionals, and providing community referrals when indicated.
+ Crisis intervention as needed or requested
+ Minimum of 4 clients per workday.
+ Maintain case load and terminate as clinically indicated to prioritize urgent student needs.
+ Collaboration and communication (written and verbal) with internal student support staff and Deans, on behalf of students as indicated or as requested.
+ Facilitate support group(s) as needed.
+ Provide culturally sensitive clinical services that address the unique needs of BIPOC students, students from diverse backgrounds, and students with intersecting identities.
+ Participate in after hours and office hours intervention(s) as needed.
+ Maintain strict adherence to FERPA and HIPAA guidelines and confidentiality practices.
+ Be available for other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor of the Office of SMHW.
Administration(10%)
+ Produce timely, empirically supported, and confidential record keeping in strict accordance with the departments standards, policies, and procedures.
+ Assist in the appropriate maintenance of records, preparation of reports, compliance with legal/ethical requirements, and other program administrative functions.
+ Appropriately, accurately, and efficiently complete and maintain mental health records.
+ Utilize an electronic health record for documentation and computer-based systems for administrative functions.
+ Familiarity in utilizing HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform to ensure reliable virtual client care, and in being able to effectively coordinate clinical consultation with counseling team.
+ Seek and utilize supervision for any and all clinical care.
Referrals(5%)
+ Obtain a release of information form, with outside providers to ensure collaboration and continuity of care.
+ Collaborate and refer to established community behavioral health partners.
Departmental Meetings and Wellness Activities(10%)
+ Participate in weekly all-staff meetings (Wednesdays 1-2 PM)
+ Represent the Office and participate as a team member in the wider College's Offices of Student Affairs' committee meetings as requested
+ Report on students, and communicate outcomes, next steps and needs to the Associate Vice Chancellor
+ Initiate any follow up on needs identified at these meetings, including creating a written summary, updating internal documentation in EMR, and internal high-risk list.
+ Follow-up required with all other internal and external providers involved in the client’s care.
+ Participation in wellness programming and planning.
+ Be available for other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor of the Office of Student Mental Health and Wellness.
+ Working collaboratively with diverse teams across the NYMC and TCDM campus to support student mental health programming and services.
Qualifications
Education requirement:
• Doctorate or master’s degree from an accredited program in Social Work• Ability to self-assess when in need of support and engage in active communication with counseling leadership when facing challenges, to adhere to professional boundaries and ethics, to seek supervision and remains within the scope of practice for social work.
Core Competencies:
+ Ability to preserve confidentiality of information.
+ Ability to adhere to the NASW code of conduct, ethics and values for Social Work
+ Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
+ Analytical skills necessary for collection and assessment of psychosocial data, interpretation of data and ongoing review of treatment efficiency and effectiveness
+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
+ Ability to work independently and desire to be a team player.
+ Creative problem-solving skills
+ Excellent oral communication skills (i.e., ability to deal effectively with others; speak professionally on the phone, etc.)
+ Demonstrate knowledge and experience working with issues related to gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, socio-economic status, etc. and skilled with techniques for counseling students from diverse backgrounds.
+ Familiarity with industry terms and processes
Licenses or certifications:
• Required licensure as a Clinical Social Worker, in good standing in New York State• Maintain continuing education requirements applicable to licensure and credentialing.
Technical/computer skills:
+ Proficiency with virtual platforms, EMR, Microsoft Office Suite
+ Ability to learn and proficiently use Office EMR, Microsoft Office Suite
Prior experience:
+ 5 years of clinical experience post licensure
+ Experience with student population in an academic health center preferred
Environmental demands: On-site and hybrid office-based work opportunity
Minimum Salary
USD $80,000.00/Yr.
Maximum Salary
USD $85,000.00/Yr.
