Job Description:

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Lead Technical Writer with a strong knowledge of technical writing and broad knowledge of project management to be responsible for planning, developing, and delivering technical documentation such as O&M manuals, user guides, and instructional materials for paper, multimedia, or web-based publication. The candidate must posses the ability to manage complex projects or processes with general oversight. The candidate will communicate within and outside of their own function to gain cooperation on operational processes, practices, and procedures. Candidate must also possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to maintain focus on complex tasks.

Essential Functions:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development teams, product managers, and subject matter experts to gather information and understand complex technical conceptsDevelop, organize, and deliver technical information (e.g., user guides, training materials, installation manuals) for non-technical and technical users in structured (markup language) or unstructured (Word) environmentsAbility to read technical drawings and convert the information into easy-to-understand proceduresAbility to communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and accurately and be comfortable asking questions to ensure accuracyIdentify and fill documentation gaps by conducting independent research, interviews, and hands-on exploration of the equipmentA hands-on approach to understanding the technology and products being documented, with a keen ability to learn new technologies quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environmentResponsible for reviews of documentation for style, design, layout, accuracy, and editorial aspectsCreate and maintain high-quality documentation standards that is measurable across the technical writing team ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistencyEnsure best practices and style guides are adhered to while maintaining a consistent tone, structure, and format across all technical documentationManage tasks and information flow using collaboration software (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, etc.)Proactively engage with development teams to ensure timely updates and revisions to the documentation based on equipment changes and enhancementsStay up to date with industry standards and trends in technical documentation, and recommend improvements and new approaches for enhancing the documentation processExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality documentationStrong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage complex projects

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.Active TS/SCI with CI Poly required.Ability to travel to Sterling, VA ~50% of the time.

Preferred Additional Skills:

Comfortable with creating documentation in Dreamweaver, Confluence, FrameMaker, etc.Experience working with the Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence, etc.).Experience creating companion information such as illustrations using photography or illustration software (Photoshop) or flowcharts/graphs using Visio.Experience in training curriculum development.Understanding of Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
