Lead Accounting Technician
Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Resource Management Team at Hill AFB. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee financial transactions, auditing financial documents and ensuring the accuracy of records. This is a Regular Full Time (RFT) position with a guaranteed minimum of 35 hours weekly, and with benefits (medical, dental, life insurance, retirement, 401(k), and annual/sick leave). Recruitment and Retention Incentives may be authorized. Responsibilities Independently performs computerized double-entry accrual accounting to maintain a combination of computer-generated journals and ledgers on a fiscal year basis. Classifies and verifies a wide variety of accounting documents to assure their mathematical correctness, completeness of information, and to prepare control sheets with appropriate accounting codes. Maintains double-entry bookkeeping, journals and subsidiary ledgers, posting entries to establish accounts. Prepares monthly balances, reconciles accounts, and transcribes to general ledger for closeout of all accounts. Reports prepared may include profit and loss statements, financial statements, and miscellaneous financial reporting data. Processes and validates financial input/output data and verifies reports from the computerized systems. Resolves disagreements by contacting vendor, completes posting documents and backup attached, codes documents, and posts appropriate ledger or journal. Posts and totals general ledger accounts each month. Responsible for leading the work of personnel assigned to the accounts payable, cashier, banking, and revenue reconciliation functions of the NAF accounting office. Distributes and balances workload among employees; observes work in progress, production, adhere to quality and safety standards. Instructs and trains new employees. Provides input to supervisor on performance, progress, and employee issues. Tracks Special Morale and Welfare funds to ensure all requests are within regulatory guidance, funds are balanced monthly, and quarterly reports are prepared on time and accurately to meet deadlines. Serves as the alternate to perform central cashier duties, including harvesting funds from facilities. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience in work which provided comprehensive knowledge of accounting methods, procedures and techniques used in maintaining and analyzing all classes of accounts in accounting systems encompassing a number of diversified activities and knowledge and understanding of the regulations, guides and precedents sufficient to interpret and apply them in a variety of situations. Must have experience with revenue reconciliation and examination of accounting documentation. Must have good oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare correspondences and reports. Must have experience of Microsoft Office programs. Conditions of Employment: Successful completion and favorable adjudication or applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
