Lead Acute Care Physical Therapist
*Description* Summary: Working in coordination with the manager, the physical therapy lead acts as a principle clinical resource with advanced clinical knowledge and skills for the assigned service. The lead therapist performs therapy examinations, develops treatment plans and goals, and applies interventions in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the profession, applicable state licensure regulations, and hospital policies and procedures to a variety of patients ranging from newborn to geriatric in age in an acute care setting. This role may oversee daily operations in the absence of the rehabilitation manager, assisting staff as needed and handling operational issues within the scope of their authority. Responsibilities: Performs therapy examinations, develops treatment plans, and establishes treatment goals with patient input utilizing evidence based practice and APTA recommendations to guide care. Serves as a clinical and administrative resource while maintaining responsibility for ensuring staff competency with patient care. Facilitates onboarding of new physical therapists. Delegates and supervises patient related tasks to assistants, aides, and support personnel. Supervises students as assigned. Supports excellence of the organization and customer satisfaction, is committed to departmental education and program development. Demonstrates respect for others in open and constructive communications. Adapts quickly when aspects of a task change, manages time effectively, and actively engages in new initiatives. Participates as assigned in department quality improvement programs. Makes suggestions for and implements idea for improved work processes. Collaborates with leadership to facilitate teamwork within the department as well as with physicians, the community, and other health professionals. Contributes to policy revisions specific to role and monitors compliance with departmental protocols and policies. Coordinates therapist/per diem schedules and ensures proper staffing on weekdays and weekends while being mindful of the departmental budget. May facilitate staff meetings or physical therapy team meetings. May serve as a departmental representative on hospital or network level committees. Ensures proper billing for physical therapy services and updates chargemaster as needed. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to position and facilitates staff compliance. Accepts other duties as assigned Required: Active CT licensure. BLS and 5 years of previous experience. Prefer: Previous experience delivering comprehensive care in an acute setting to patients with physical dysfunction secondary to disability, disease, or injury in accordance with professional standards of practice. Previous experience with diagnoses including orthopedic, pulmonary, oncology, pain management, vestibular, amputations, multi-trauma, neurological and medically complex patients.
