The College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA), Office of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education (UGED) is hiring a lead administrator to join our Management Team. The Undergraduate Education Division is one of four divisions within the largest College on the Ann Arbor Campus. LSA is home to over 1,800 faculty, staff, LEO Lecturers, Graduate Students, and temporary staff.

The Undergraduate Education Division includes approximately twenty-five academic and academic support units from across the College dedicated to student exploration, engagement, and learning. We offer curriculum and advising support as well as instructional support for both students and faculty. Many of our academic enrichment programs feature high impact educational experiences, such as study abroad, undergraduate research, and civic engagement. We also serve as an incubator for curricular and co-curricular innovation. Lead Administrator
We are seeking an experienced, energetic, and dynamic business administration leader who can collaborate with the Associate and Assistant Deans, other administrators, and colleagues to create an effective and robust administrative structure to support and promote undergraduate education. The successful candidate will manage and collaborate on a high volume of tasks and projects with a strong attention to detail while being comfortable with constant change and working in a fast-paced academic environment. This position reports to the UGED Director for Administrative Operations.

Responsibilities*

The Lead Administrator position is part of a team of three administrators providing units with strategic partnership and guidance on HR, fiscal, procurement and operational policies and procedures. The Lead Administrator executes division-wide managerial projects and strategic initiatives.

This position will provide strategic advice and is responsible for the management of process improvements, policy development and compliance, and internal control compliance in HR, Finance, General Operations, Facilities, and IT Administration. As a team, the administrators ensure the administrative and programmatic activities within the Division are consistent and aligned with the strategic mission of the College and University policies.

Human Resources Responsibilities (35%)

Facilitate human resource activities in collaboration with UGED leadership and LSA business partners on matters including hiring, on-boarding and training, performance management, employee relations, compensation, professional development, leaves of absence, and appointment changes. Foster inclusivity, mitigate bias and optimize efficiency in hiring processes. Remain current and knowledgeable of all relevant UHR, LSA and UGED HR policies, procedures and guidelines to advise staff and make informed decisions. Lead the development of job descriptions and review positions for appropriate classification and compensation level in partnership with LSA HR. Approve job description for non-academic positions. Participate in the recruitment and hiring processes of staff positions. Manage UGED hiring processes for GEO and LEO, ensuring compliance with union contracts. Provide managerial guidance for units' performance evaluation and annual salary program processes.

Financial Resources Responsibilities (25%)

Provide strategic guidance to UGED leadership and to a portfolio of units. Collaborate to develop the unit's annual budget and staffing plan. Work in partnership with the LSA Finance team to leverage data-driven analysis, planning and reporting. Understand complex budget models and financial policies. Routinely review management reports, monitor activities to ensure compliance and appropriate resource utilization. Facilitate information sharing and manage protocol changes. Validate and instruct units for proper utilization of funds according to donor and sponsor intent. Lead units through the annual internal controls and sub-certification process, including gap analysis and written procedures documentation. Develop resolution for inconsistencies. Review and validate purchases and unit Director expense reports. Initiate procurement and AP processes for units.

Project Management Responsibilities (30%)

Complete assigned time-limited projects analyzing trends, KPI's, and staffing metrics. Manage special projects as directed, including research and investigation of issues, and development of solutions with agreements from units and staff. Evaluate, develop and execute UGED implementation strategy for new policies and procedures. Partner with units to assist with administrative operations during times of increased need.

Divisional, School, and University Responsibilities (10%)

Participate in long-range and strategic planning activities for UGED Management, including the exploration of shared staffing arrangements and evaluation of financial allocations across units. Provide guidance to Associate Dean, Assistant Deans, and unit staff on the interpretation of University and College policies and procedures and assure awareness and compliance among faculty, staff, and students. Advise project managers and PIs in acquiring and managing multi-unit sponsored research projects Represent UGED on university and college-wide committees, as assigned. Serve as the primary liaison between UGED units and administration.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. 3 or more years of relevant experience in the areas of HR, budget and finance, and project management. Demonstrated commitment and knowledge of best practices in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with diverse leadership styles. Comfortable in fast-paced, dynamic environments with diverse responsibilities that change over time. Handle complex or unclear situations.

Desired Qualifications*

5-7 years of progressively responsible strategic and management work experience.Working knowledge of UM/LSA policies and procedures strongly preferred. Experience in a higher education environment, particularly direct interaction with students and faculty.Experience with supervision of staff.Experience with a wide-range of funding models and resource streams.Proficient in both Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.Familiarity with central database data access via Business Objects or similar applications.  Experience in using the M-Pathways systems for financials, student services, and human resources functions.

This position qualifies for a hybrid work arrangement, based on LSA's current model. Staff are expected to work on-campus at least 3 days per week.
