Atlantic Health System is Seeking a Full-Time Lead Advanced Practice Clinician for Neurocritical Care in Morristown
Atlantic Health System, one of New Jersey's largest non-profit healthcare networks, is seeking a Full-Time Lead Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) to join the Trauma and Acute Care Center. Morristown Medical Center’s Luciano Family Trauma and Acute Care Center is verified as a Level I Regional Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons and designated a Level II by the state of New Jersey. The Lead Advanced Practice Clinician will have 24/7/365 accountability and oversight of the APP team. Quality of Care: Provides direct or indirect patient care based on identified patient needs for the neuro critical care population. Advocates for patients, family members, and clinical personnel and supports policies and services that advocate for patient rights and optimal healthcare environments. Uses expert knowledge and clinical judgment to identify potential/actual diagnoses and appropriate interventions. Formulates a treatment plan in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team based on clinical findings, interpretation of laboratory results, diagnostic procedures, and patient/family involvement. Performs evidence-based interventions consistently and implements pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for patients within state licensure and hospital privileges. Determines the effectiveness of the treatment plan and reassesses and/or modifies it to achieve optimal health maintenance goals. Assesses the need for, plans, and implements quality improvement programs. Evaluates quality improvement data and formulates evidence-based recommendations to improve the quality of care and clinical practice.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Co-directs the clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives of the NCC APP service in collaboration with physician and nursing leaders.Participates in performance improvement activities related to neurology, neurosurgery, and the Neuro ICU. Reviews pertinent clinical and administrative policies annually and ensures APP clinical competency and adherence to policy through practice analysis and case review with physicians. Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with the NCC APPs.Oversees onboarding and orientation of new NCC APPs.Provides education to NCC APPs in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.Participates in the hiring, evaluation, coaching, mentoring, and discipline of the NCC APPs along with physician and nurse leaders.Promotes recruitment and retention by providing staff and student guidance, support, and professional development.Investigates, evaluates, and recommends supplies and capital equipment. Investigates and resolves NCC APP operational issues in collaboration with physician and nurse leaders.Coordinates the scheduling of the NCC APP team to ensure 24/7 coverage.Ensures compliance with Medical Staff initiatives, policies, and procedures.Assists in the development and implementation of hospital-wide goals related to NCC. Promotes a positive hospital image through participation in community programs, professional programs, networking in a professional organization, and university affiliations.Assists and participates in preparing for JC, DOH & other regulatory agency visits. Assists with implementing policies, guidelines, and recommendations of the regulatory bodies.Assists, promotes, and improves/develops high standards of patient care management.Other duties as assigned.Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Provides anticipatory guidance and counseling regarding wellness, lifestyle, disease risks, and potential changes in health status to staff and clients. Initiates/assists health promotion and disease prevention services cognizant of age, development, risk, geographic location, and culture. Initiates, coordinates, and conducts appropriate health screening tests and immunizations. Recognizes and provides appropriate health promotion/ disease prevention information and services to neurology/NCC patients with acute and chronic conditions.
Education: Identifies educational needs of the neuro critical care patient and their family concerning alterations in health, the disease process, hospital plan of care, and discharge plan. Identifies the clinical and professional development needs of clinical staff and plans and provides education in the area of expertise. Develops and provides educational programs and conferences for staff, other departments, and the community. Supports socialization, education, and training of novice clinicians by serving as a preceptor, role model, and mentor. Coordinates/participates in community education programs. Organizes and conducts supportive counseling and education for patient and family groups. Acts as a resource to affiliating clinical programs. Pursues and participates in formal and independent learning activities to enhance knowledge, clinical competency, and professional development.
Ethics: Fosters the establishment of an ethical environment that supports the rights of all participants. Contributes to the resolution of ethical dilemmas. Serves as a mentor and role model by participating in the resolution of ethical and clinical dilemmas.

Collaborates with senior investigators and interdisciplinary team members in conducting research relevant to practice. Assesses and identifies relevant researchable clinical problems with staff. Utilizes the research process to improve patient care outcomes and enhance the environment of care. Provides for dissemination of research developments in the field of specialization. Promotes evidence-based practice in the clinical and professional environment.
Resource Utilization: Evaluates factors related to safety, effectiveness, availability, and cost to design and implement best practices. Facilitates access for patients and family members to appropriate healthcare services. Serves as a resource to various populations to influence healthcare delivery and the formation of healthcare policy.
Collegiality: Identifies and participates in opportunities to share skills, knowledge, and strategies for patient care and system improvement with colleagues and other healthcare providers. Promotes a learning environment that enables clinical team members and other healthcare personnel to make optimal contributions and systems to function effectively. Participates in professional organizations to address issues of concern in meeting patient care needs and improving clinical practice and system effectiveness.
Collaboration: Initiates consultation and referrals to appropriate specialty providers when indicated. Collaborates with other disciplines in consultation, teaching, patient management, and research activities to improve outcomes in clinical practice and enhance the healthcare environment. Utilizes a professional governance forum to provide support for enhancing education, practice & quality improvement. Collaborates with physicians, specialists, and other designated care providers to optimize patient care environment. Collaborates with the manager to identify clinical activities to facilitate the professional growth of staff. Collaborates with the manager to identify areas of unit scope/role expansion. Collaborates with the nursing and medical staff education departments and other advanced practice clinicians to develop and implement educational programs to support newly hired health professionals and to progress the advancement of interdisciplinary team management of patient care. Collaborates with case management services to meet complex patient healthcare needs.
