Department Summary:

Come join the Cyber Resiliency Engineering team! As part of this team, you will work with others researching and applying cutting edge cyber security solutions to protect our nation’s networks and computer systems from advanced threats. 

Department L522, Cyber Resiliency and Cross Domain Solutions in the Cyber Solutions Innovation Center, is seeking a Lead Applied Cybersecurity Engineer.

The successful candidate will be expected to work on a collaborative team of engineers to develop new cyber security solutions to improve sponsor cyber security. They will provide direct sponsor support in solving some of the toughest technical challenges that our government has in cyber security and resiliency by applying existing and emerging technologies, developing cybersecurity prototypes and reference architectures, and documenting technical and operational requirements for security systems in our sponsors’ domains.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Work with government sponsors to apply today’s cybersecurity and resiliency technologies to maximize their securityDevelop cybersecurity testbeds for research and development of cybersecurity capabilitiesResearch emerging cybersecurity capabilities for evaluation and inclusion into our sponsors security architecturesDefine requirements for operational systems to be fielded by our sponsors to ensure those systems’ cyber resiliency from day oneProvide direct technical leadership, support, and oversight for deploying operational solutions that provide enhanced cyber resiliency to our sponsors’ most critical systemsDevelop and demonstrate prototypes for key cybersecurity solutions (including zero-trust security models, automated response tools, active defense, and more)Work with government sponsors to identify and define their critical cyber resiliency challengesDevelop data-driven technical products to outline recommended solutions in a clear and concise manner Propose innovative concepts and solutions and lead teams to instantiate those conceptsPossess motivation to expand knowledge and willingness to take risks to explore new opportunitiesStay abreast of current and emerging cyber threats and trends

Basic Qualifications:

BS and 8 years experience or MS and a minimum of 6 years experience or a PhD and a minimum of 2 years experienceStrong knowledge of cybersecurity technologiesMust be U.S citizen with a Top Secret ClearanceArchitectural and operational vulnerability analysis experienceUnderstanding of the Incident Analysis / Response processesPrior project/task leadershipDeep knowledge of cyber threats, attack vectors, methods, attacks and countermeasuresRed Team and/or Pen Testing experienceCyber Threat Intelligence experienceThis position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as ansible, chef, and puppetExperience with Windows system administration, including Active Directory, single sign on, managing update servers, and smart card loginsExperience with linux system administrationExperience with defensive cyber operations tools such as SIEMs, IDSs, SOARs, and EDRsExpertise in one or more of department capability areas (Resilient Architectures & Mission Assurance, Applied Resiliency Solutions, Active Defense & Resiliency Technologies, Threat-Informed Resiliency, or Strategic Resiliency Research)Experience with web development, including user interface experienceTS/SCI
