Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Elmendorf Community Services Flights on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK. . Regular Part-Time employees have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 30 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. You are eligible for Health and Life Insurance, Awards, Leave, Retirement, 401K, and more. Responsibilities Assists the Manager of the Auto Arts & Craft Center operations. Assumes the role of acting manager if the Manager is on leave or TDY. As a working leader provides day-to-day advice and guidance to employees for work assignments; relays instructions from the supervisor for work assignments; gets the work started and sets the work pace; demonstrates work methods and provides work-related guidance; ensures that the worksite materials and tools are available; and ensures that employees follow security and safety rules. Reports all safety violations to immediate supervisor. Oversees the daily activities of other employees engaged in the performance of their duties to include planning, distributing and balancing work; reporting to Manager on performance and reviewing completed work; motivating, coaching, training; and supporting the equal opportunity (EEO) program. Prepares cash drawers for shift cashiers, makes change for cashiers, rings out cash register at the end of each shift, prepares daily cashier report utilizing RecTrac and NAFDIS, and performs complex clerical duties and administrative tasks for the facility. Maintains logs, prepares time and attendance cards in SETS. Frames patron artwork or pictures following work order specifications. Selects finished wood or wood substitute/material from existing stock, measures and uses chopper to cut material to desired dimensions, cuts stock with cutter or miter saw, and glues or nails frame corners together. The incumbent uses small hand tools (e.g. hammer, drill, nail punch, glass scorer, mat knife, stapler, paper cutter) to assemble the picture frame. Cuts mat board to achieve special cutting effects specified in the work order. Measures and cuts fabric or paper mat material, mounts artwork to mat or backing assembly, and secures work with retention staples. The work is completed with a heat seal to mount the picture to the backing. Measures, scores, and breaks protective glass to proper dimensions. Measures, cuts and assembles backing materials and picture hanging devices. Answers telephones, prepares and displays samples, and shop display of merchandise. Trains new employees in equipment operations, assembly of shop products and customer service operations. Maintains perpetual control on all inventory items associated with the frame shop using pre-established procedures and methods. Orders additional stock and supplies as needed to maintain adequate stock on hand. Maintains shop tools and assures tools are kept in good working order. Assists Picture Framer(s) and patrons by demonstrating picture framing and matting techniques, including use of safety practices of shop equipment. Selects, issues, and receives hand tools used by patrons. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifying Experience: Must have progressively responsible experience in the use and general maintenance of miter saws, chop saws, V-nailer, mat cutters, glass cutters, bandsaws, sewing machines, kilns, and measuring devices. Experience in program development in an Arts & Crafts environment is required. Must possess ability to teach classes in framing, glass crafts, woodworking, fabric crafts, jewelry and/or drawing is required. Must have experience which demonstrates a wide knowledge range of woodworking materials, techniques and processes. Experience in art, graphics, and layout is required. Must have computer knowledge to include Microsoft Office, Rec trac, Inventory, SAIS and SETS. Must be able to read, write and speak English, and do basic arithmetic. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Clear speaking voice required. Must be able to lift 40 pounds without assistance. Must be able to stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in an environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels, dust, grease and dirt. Must have ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 Investigation. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
