Lead Bridge Engineer

The Lead Bridge Engineer will be based in our Toronto Office in a hybrid working environment. Our team is currently engaged in multiple large projects, including the delivery of the Technical Advisor role to Metrolinx for the planning, design, procurement, and construction phases of Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE). This project requires a senior resource in the role of a Subject Matter Expert and Elevated Guideway Lead to support our clients in various contracts at different stages of the project.

For this role, the successful candidate must hold a professional license in Ontario (PEO) and have working experience with Canadian codes and standards, local methodologies, and Ontario construction details and specifications.

Responsibilities:

  •  Serving as SME and Technical Lead on the ECWE project, and manage a team of Bridge, Civil, and Offshore Structures members in the review of design submittals, support Metrolinx in the overall compliance assurance, participate in meetings with the Design Builder and their engineers, and ensure standard methodologies are employed in the design and construction of the works;

  •  Serving as Project Manager or Technical Lead on large infrastructure projects;

  •  Leading the technical delivery aspects of bridge & civil structure designs (new builds and retrofit);

  •  Achieving successful commercial delivery of the projects or portions of projects being delivered by the Bridges & Civil Structures team through strong technical delivery and efficient close-out;

  •  Supervising the quality of work delivered by the Bridges & Civil Structures team;

  •  Mentoring staff to develop future leaders, develop team member abilities, and promote learning from successes and challenges within the group;

  •  Promoting collaboration with other teams and market groups within Arup locally, regionally and globally;

  •  Seeking new project opportunities for Arup in Ontario and chipping in to or leading business development activities including preparing proposals;

  •  Establishing relationships with current and future key clients and partners and encouraging healthy long-term relationships;

  •  Proactively engaging with clients and contractors to prepare high quality, technically efficient and cost-effective project solutions; and

  •  Encouraging a culture and managing processes that achieve quality outcomes.

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering;

  •  15+ years of industry recognized experience in design and management of projects with emphasis on bridges and infrastructure projects in the highways and rail sectors;

  •  Professional license in Ontario; in other provinces would be an asset;

  •  MTO RAQS qualification in Bridge Engineering for Design & Evaluation - Complex Structures (multi-span) and for Rehabilitation would be an asset;

  •  Strong technical, leadership and management skills;

  •  Experience with sophisticated multidisciplinary projects;

  •  Experience in analysis and design of new bridges and rehabilitation/retrofit of existing bridges;

  •  Proficient in local codes & standards, and provincial standard details and construction specifications;

  •  Experience with DBB and alternative delivery procurement;

  •  Strong industry presence, with an established client network in Ontario and private sector clients; and

  •  Effective presentation skills.

Toronto Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $125,000 to $165,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
